Mazda continues to develop new and intuitive technology. Some of the technology improves performance or safety, while other systems make your daily life around East Stroudsburg, Stroudsburg, Easton, Brodheadsville, and Saylorsville easier.

A Mazda key fob is one feature that's spread across the vehicle lineup. If you're currently wondering how to open your Mazda key fob and replace the battery, you've come to the right place!

To help nearby motorists swap out the batteries in their Mazda key fobs, our Ray Price Mazda team has laid out a step-by-step process!

What You'll Need

There are a few tools that you'll need in order to open your Mazda key fob and replace the battery inside.

The key fob itself is, of course, the first necessary piece. A replacement battery is also needed. The battery should be a CR2025, a small, silver circle that typically comes in a pack of two.

Lastly, you'll need to locate a small flat-head screwdriver. When you have the screwdriver, it's important to wrap the head in tape. Once wrapped, the screwdriver won't be able to scratch or damage your key fob as you work to change the battery!

Getting Your Mazda Key Fob Open

Whether you have the Mazda MX-5 Miata or the Mazda CX-5, opening the key fob will be a similar process.

First you'll need to look on the back of the key fob for the auxiliary key button. When you find the button, press it and remove the metal auxiliary key.

When the metal has been removed, you should see a small slot on either side of the case. These slots should be wide enough for you to slip the tape-wrapped screwdriver in and pry the case open. Remember to be gentle so as not to snap or crack the Mazda key fob.

Replace the Battery

Now that you have opened your Mazda key fob, you can switch out the old battery and install the new one.

There will be a cap over your battery on the inside of the key fob. First things first, you need to remove the cap. Once you've done so, you should be able to clearly see the circular battery. Take the battery out with your hands, being careful not to damage the rubber ring that supports the battery.

After removing the old battery, slide the new one into its place. Be sure the positive (+) side of the battery is facing you as you settle it into the spot.

From here, you simply need to put your Mazda key fob back together and be on your way!
